Slovak Radio Building
Preserving Heritage with Intelligent Lighting at the Slovak Radio Building
The Slovak Radio Building, known for its striking inverted pyramid architecture, has been a cultural landmark since the 1980s. In 2024, the entire building underwent a complete reconstruction to preserve its heritage while transforming it into a modern, intelligent, and energy-efficient workplace.
Delivered in collaboration with Helvar Partner DNA Slovakia, the lighting upgrade played a key role in helping the building meet today’s sustainability standards and support the wellbeing of everyone who works and performs inside. The project was carried out under the strict supervision of the Monuments Board to ensure every intervention respected the building’s architectural integrity.
Smarter, sustainable lighting
The original fluorescent lighting was replaced with 12,280 LED luminaires controlled by Helvar’s Imagine DALI-based solution. This replaced more than 14,000 outdated luminaires, delivering a major leap in efficiency and comfort. The lighting control solution operates mostly autonomously, with both local and central management options, giving flexibility across a diverse set of spaces including offices, meeting rooms, corridors, parking areas, concert halls, and recording studios.
Technology that adapts
The Helvar solution integrates over 1,000 sensors to optimise illumination, harvest daylight, and adjust automatically to activity throughout the day. Modes for day, night, concerts, and exhibitions ensure the right atmosphere for every function. Remote access through Helvar Insights enables monitoring and maintenance from anywhere, reducing operational time and cost.
Results that matter
The lighting upgrade is expected to save 1.69 GWh of electricity annually, marking a significant step toward sustainability. Combining energy performance with human-centric control, the Slovak Radio Building now stands as a benchmark in preserving history while embracing intelligent, future-ready lighting.
