Tampere Theatre
Tampere Theatre, standing by the Tammerkoski rapids in the city center, has long been a cultural heartbeat in the city. With its heritage stretching back over a century, it has witnessed generations of performances, applause, and stories on its stage. However, even the most cherished buildings must evolve and adapt to changing needs, improving sustainability, operations, and end-user experience. As 2024 was coming to an end, the theatre began a renovation project, bringing in technologies that create a truly connected environment – including a smart lighting control system, which is just as important as the final call before the performance.

Lighting is the silent orchestrator of a theatre’s magic and the audience’s comfort. It sculpts emotions, and guides attention. Behind the seamless transitions and dynamic ambiances lies a complex, technical system – one that demands adaptability, flexibility, and reliability. For this reason, the choice of lighting control system was essential.
Helvar Imagine DALI was the chosen solution. With Helvar’s deep-rooted expertise in theatrical lighting – dating back to its earliest applications in Finland’s theatre scene, the integration was seamless. The system was selected not just for its advanced dimming capabilities but for its ability to create consistent lighting scenes, supporting an intended mood, before, during, and after the performance.
Beyond aesthetics, the theatre required a system that could integrate effortlessly with DMX controls, the industry standard for dynamic stage lighting. Helvar Imagine DALI system provided a synergy between daily and stage lighting, allowing for smooth transitions between house and performance lighting without disruption. This level of control is essential in a venue where precision dictates the audience’s experience.

The renovation brought smart technology into the heart of Tampere Theatre. Smart sensors and automation enhanced energy efficiency without compromising the experience. The lighting seamlessly adapts to occupancy and usage, ensuring both sustainability and cost-effectiveness improving the theatre’s operations.
As the renovation project moves towards completion in May 2025, Tampere Theatre enters an era where tradition and innovation coexist in a perfect symphony. The lighting, though sometimes unnoticed by people, will continue to elevate emotions and storytelling. And behind the scenes, Helvar’s expertise ensures that the technical foundation remains as reliable and future-proof as possible.
