Hotel Oktogon Haggenmacher

Budapest, Hungary

One of the most exciting aspects of architecture is the contemporary reinterpretation of a building with a century-long history. In the heart of Budapest, the Haggenmacher Palace has been reborn as Hotel Oktogon.

Originally built in the late 19th century, this historic structure has served various functions throughout its existence. Now, through meticulous planning and execution, it has been transformed into a hotel that harmoniously balances heritage preservation with modern functionality and elegance.
This project, in partnership with our Hungarian Partner, BE LIGHT!, showcases how intelligent lighting solutions can complement historical architecture.
The challenge
A project of this magnitude required careful attention to both architectural integrity and operational efficiency. Given the hotel’s character and diverse functional spaces, a close collaboration between architects, interior designers, and electrical system specialists was essential to ensure both aesthetics and functionality.
One of the most complex aspects of the project was integrating lighting into the interior loggia and facade. Maintaining continuity in lighting sources was paramount, requiring multiple trial setups and precise placement of electrical outlets to ensure seamless integration. The final lighting design successfully enhances the building’s grandeur while preserving its historical essence.
Smart Lighting for Guest Comfort
Lighting plays a vital role in hospitality, shaping the guest experience through atmosphere and adaptability. At Hotel Oktogon, the lighting design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also creates a welcoming ambiance by incorporating pre-set lighting scenes tailored to different times of the day and moods. This ensures optimal brightness and warmth while allowing guests and staff to fine-tune lighting settings to their specific needs, adding flexibility and comfort.
Another important element was energy efficiency—adjusting light levels based on occupancy and time of day to reduce costs. By implementing smart lighting solutions, the hotel maximises sustainability without compromising on guest experience.
