Radisson Blu Hotel
Sopot, Poland
A Baltic Breeze of Smart Lighting & Design of the Future
Radisson Blu in Sopot is a serene seaside escape on the Baltic coast, that invites guests to unwind amidst natural beauty. This place, however, houses a complex network of spaces – from intimate spa retreats to expansive conference rooms, and a concert venue. The challenge of this project was to design a big lighting system that could flick between moods – adjusting to each space, enhancing the guest experience, and operating seamlessly behind the scenes.
Collaborating with our local partner HC Center, we started a mission to illuminate the Radisson Blu Sopot with the Helvar Imagine wired system, known for its adaptability and scalability. The scope included a network of 25 DALI buses – the digital highways that carry lighting commands – connecting an impressive array of luminaires and controls. Our lighting control system was implemented in all common spaces like the lobby, reception, corridors, gym, yoga house, conference rooms, restaurants, indoor pool area, spa (12 dedicated treatment rooms), and the concert venue.
Phase dimmers fine-tune the decorative lighting, while DALI relays ensure the smooth operation of functional lights, contributing to a cohesive and well-orchestrated lighting control system.
The hotel’s staff, empowered by nine personalised ST7-X touch panels and 30 button panels, effortlessly set the mood for any occasion. No need for training – Helvar’s ST7-X SceneTouch Panel puts control at their fingertips.
A crucial aspect of creating a good atmosphere is establishing the right ambience through appropriate lighting. Thanks to the lighting control system, we can react dynamically to the ever-changing situations and needs of our guests. The touch panel has been configured specifically for us and is simple to operate. This allows any member of staff to easily and quickly adjust the lighting settings. – Mariusz Puc, F&B Director at Radisson Blu Sopot.
In this facility, the best example of an appropriate design of a lighting control system for decorative fixtures is the lighting installation in the main hall, featuring cascading seagulls, a playful reminder of the nearby beach and sea, creating an unforgettable first impression for guests. Light creates mood and atmosphere – using control systems, we can freely change this atmosphere according to the occasion.
The uniqueness of the luminaires and lighting solutions used required a system with high versatility and quality. In order to ensure the highest level of comfort and the best user experience, we decided to work with Helvar on this project. The high level of service provided by the company from the design stage through to implementation and final acceptance was the deciding factor. We are satisfied with this cooperation and this is certainly not the last project we will undertake together. – Grzegorz Skowroński, CEO of Skylark Lighting.
Radisson Blu project is a showcase of technical possibilities. Helvar’s systems are limitless – they effortlessly handle a wide variety of lighting fixtures. It’s also the power of DALI, a protocol that allows for granular control and energy efficiency. The project’s scale underscores the importance of a robust and scalable system, capable of handling the demands of a large, multi-faceted facility, futureproofing the building.
Beyond the technicalities, the Helvar system elevated the guest experience. Personalised and adjustable lighting control, and daylight harvesting – it’s all part of the magic that is crucial for guest’s comfort.
As hotel renovations occur, the system’s flexibility allows for the seamless integration of new building innovations and design changes. The system’s energy-saving features align perfectly with the hotel’s commitment to sustainability, while its flexibility ensures the lighting design can evolve alongside the hotel’s ever-changing needs. The forward-thinking approach of lighting systems not only guarantees scalability and lower future costs but also positions the Radisson Blu Sopot as a great example of sustainable and intelligent building design.
