Aura Light factory
Future-Proofing production with data-driven, wireless lighting control
As a leading European luminaire manufacturer, Aura Light recognised that their own production facility in Vimmerby needed a modern lighting infrastructure to match its ambitious standards.
The challenge: A smart factory needs a smarter foundation
The primary challenge was twofold: to modernise the lighting across the entire 10,000 space, spanning intricate assembly lines and high-bay storage areas, to provide a superior, uniform working environment for their employees. Simultaneously, they sought to achieve significant energy efficiency and implement a system that was not only simple to install but also inherently flexible, scalable, and ready to evolve with future operational demands. They needed a wireless solution that could also easily integrate their existing DALI luminaires.
The Helvar solution: Intelligent nodes, wireless freedom, and actionable data
Aura Light selected Helvar’s intelligent platform for a successful lighting upgrade. The core of the new system is the deployment of Aura Light’s smart Helags luminaires across the factory, powered by Helvar’s wireless and open-standard technology:
-
ActiveAhead Wireless Control: In many areas, the Helags luminaires feature a built-in Helvar ActiveAhead Node that forms a robust wireless network with external ActiveAhead sensors. This technology enables seamless control, allowing for quick configuration of groups and zones via a mobile app, even for the existing 74 DALI luminaires integrated into the network.
-
D4i as a Future-Proof Foundation: In the warehouse, Aura Light piloted the integration of Helvar D4i Nodes directly into 51 of the Helags luminaires. As the latest standard for smart, connected luminaires, D4i provides a standardised platform for power and communication, ensuring the fixtures are ready for future IoT sensors and devices.
-
Helvar Insights & Senses for Data: To transform the factory into a truly smart space, the installation was equipped with Helvar Environmental Sensors (3901). This hardware feeds vital data on occupancy, temperature, air quality, noise, and ventilation back to the cloud. The cloud-based service, Helvar Insights, compiles this data to give Aura Light a complete overview of energy use, maintenance requirements, and space utilisation, driving continuous optimisation.
The benefits: Comfort, control, and sustainability
The new system delivers a significant upgrade in both performance and operational intelligence, creating a workplace that benefits both people and the planet.
Enhanced working environment and flexibility
The high-efficiency Helags luminaires deliver powerful, uniform, and comfortable lighting across the entire 10,000 facility. Thanks to the ActiveAhead system, the lighting is incredibly flexible. Should workstations or production layouts change, groups and zones can be easily and quickly reconfigured via the app, eliminating the need for costly rewiring.
Significant energy savings
By combining high-efficacy luminaires with intelligent occupancy detection, the flexible solution has resulted in a significant reduction in energy consumption. The system ensures light is only on when and where it’s needed, providing substantial savings on operational costs and supporting Aura Light’s sustainability goals.
Actionable intelligence
Helvar Insights provides the key to sustained optimisation. Aura Light now has a full, cloud-based overview of the building’s performance, using the real-time data from the environmental sensors to monitor operational efficiency and maintenance needs. This turns the lighting network into a platform for smart building management.
The implementation of ActiveAhead wireless control, D4i nodes, Helags luminaires, and Helvar’s software suite has created a cutting-edge lighting solution that is inherently flexible, scalable, and future-proof.
