Smart, Energy-Efficient Lighting at PEPCO Logistics Center

The PEPCO Logistics Center in Gyál is a large-scale distribution facility spanning 100,000 square metres. Operating across vast warehouse areas, the building requires reliable, efficient lighting that supports continuous activity while minimising energy use.

Delivered in collaboration with Helvar partner BE LIGHT!, the lighting solution was designed to maximise the use of natural daylight and reduce operational costs. The BE LIGHT! team was responsible for both the design and programming of the system, resulting in potential energy savings of up to 70 percent.

Designed for efficiency at scale

The installation includes 2,800 luminaires across the site, managed through 110 DALI lines. A Helvar lighting control system forms the backbone of the building operation, using x55 Imagine 910 routers, x140 pieces of 317 high-bay sensors, and additional presence sensors to monitor activity and light levels throughout the space.

This dense sensor network enables the system to respond dynamically to both occupancy and available daylight. Lighting levels are automatically adjusted to maintain optimal visibility while avoiding unnecessary energy consumption.

Intelligent daylight utilisation

A key feature of the project is its focus on daylight harvesting. By continuously measuring natural light levels, the system ensures artificial lighting is only used when needed. This approach is particularly effective in large logistics environments, where daylight availability can vary significantly across different zones.

Touch panels installed throughout the facility provide simple, intuitive control where manual input is required, while the overall system operates automatically in the background.

The result is a highly efficient lighting solution that supports safe and productive warehouse operations while significantly reducing energy use. With potential energy savings of up to 70 percent, the PEPCO Logistics Center demonstrates how intelligent lighting control can deliver measurable impact at scale.
