Scotland’s First WELL Certified™ Gold office!

Multinational professional services firm, Pinsent Masons, recently moved into their new 25,000 sq ft offices in the centre of Edinburgh’s financial district.

The new record-breaking Edinburgh office has officially become the first building in Scotland to be awarded a prestigious WELL Certification by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), achieving Gold!
“From the outset we wanted to take our people-centric workplace approach up a notch by targeting a globally-recognised standard, such as WELL, and challenging ourselves to deliver a more sustainable office fit-out project. We researched and sought out elements which created an amazing space that supports the wellbeing of the colleagues who work here, while minimising our impact on the environment throughout”, said Luke Richards, Head of Facilities, UK & Ireland, Pinsent Masons.

With light being one of the seven categories that make up The WELL Building Standard, Pinsent Masons’ design team introduced measures including Circadian lighting systems, which work in harmony with occupants’ 24-hour biological clocks.
Human-centric lighting can be tuned to imitate natural daylight, which means the lighting works in harmony with our body’s natural circadian rhythms. By incorporating these dynamic features in an office, a human-centric lighting system more accurately emulates natural light, therefore supporting the wellbeing of everyone using the space”, explains Raymund McGrath, Lighting Intelligence Sales Manager, Helvar.
We provided a DALI lighting control system with the user’s wellbeing at the forefront of the design. Using DALI Type 8 and our inbuilt Light Over Time platform, we control the tunable white lighting, adjusting the colour temperature throughout the day to create visual comfort and a healthier and more naturally lit environment. The project was highly commended at the 2022 DALI awards.
In the executive suites and meeting rooms, users can select their preferred colour temperature and intensity of light using our intuitive Illustris panels. All emergency luminaires are tested through our Usee interface, easing FM demands and ensuring peace of mind.
“Providing this solution assisted the client in their ambition to achieve a WELL accreditation for the flagship Edinburgh office, ensuring a high-class environment for employees and clients to thrive in”, adds McGrath.
