Välinge Invest — Helvar sheds light on Välinge innovation

Stockholm, Sweden

Välinge Innovation’s office building, located in the outskirts of Helsingborg, Sweden, earned recognition from the prestigious Swedish Lighting Design Awards, taking home the top prize for “Most energy efficient facility.”

The restaurant has a high ceiling and suspended pendant fittings have been installed to create a warmer atmosphere and a more intimate atmosphere. There are four main lighting scenes with the luminaires operating at 70% during the day, dropping to 40% during the evening to create a background for evening dining. The scheme has been submitted for the FX Design Awards.

When the flooring company Välinge Innovation decided to revamp their premises, they commissioned WSP Ljusdesign to install a modern lighting system. The company, located in the outskirts of Helsingborg, presented a two-fold challenge; save as much energy as possible and integrate the controls with other systems in the building.

Their choice fell upon Helvar and its universal solution based on the DIGIDIM 910 Router that picks up signals from a total of 200 sensors in the entire facility, from the headquarters to premises for research and storage. Helvar’s system is not only designed to create a harmonized, visual experience in offices and corridors – it also controls alarms, entry gates and regulates heating and ventilation.

“The project was a prize winner and a homerun”, says Mikael Herbetsson, project Manager for Välinge Innovation at Helvar Sweden. “The solution was developed in close cooperation with WSP Ljusdesign and represents future innovation. Our aim is to demonstrate how you can combine energy-saving with visual comfort that is fully adapted to the needs of personnel.”

Helvar is pioneering the 21st century approach to lighting solutions by combining human needs with cost efficiency and environmental requirements. Välinge Innovation is a shining example of this where the installed sensors detect when the building is empty and adjust all utilities accordingly. This has resulted in a reduction of energy consumption of up to 70 per cent.

“All buildings can reduce their energy consumption and cut costs”, adds Lars Wilsson, Managing Director at Helvar Sweden. “We are hoping that the Lighting Design Awards will inspire companies in other industries and their decision-makers. To replace outdated systems with optimised alternatives is a more intelligent approach to lighting. The environmental benefits are just part of the package.”
