RONA Glassworks Factory
What do Helvar and a Slovak drinking glass manufacturer have in common? It might not seem crystal clear at first, but RONA and Helvar are cut from the same glass – a passion for innovation, sustainability and cutting-edge technology.
RONA, the world’s leading drinking glass manufacturer, was looking for a smart lighting control system to reduce costs and energy usage, gain valuable insights into their property operations, and enhance employee well-being.
This project was executed by DNA Slovakia, the local Helvar Partner, who implemented our hybrid system combining DALI-2 wired Helvar Imagine lighting control solution and a wireless Helvar ActiveAhead system.
Over 2,520 luminaires are now intelligently managed using a combination of wired DALI control (via Helvar Imagine 910 routers and 322 High Bay Multisensors) and wireless ActiveAhead components including Node Advanced and ActiveAhead Node Sense devices. This system takes full advantage of energy-efficient LED luminaires, is straightforward to install, minimises downtime, eliminates the need for manual time scheduling, optimises energy efficiency and improves user experience through movement sensors and adaptive automation across office, production, and warehouse spaces.
A standout feature of this project was the use of wireless technology, which significantly reduced costs by minimising the need for extensive electroinstallation. The seamless implementation allowed for the exchange of fully functional, modern lights during working hours without disrupting operations. Thanks to wireless technology, the administrative offices at RONA continued functioning as usual throughout the installation process.
This approach optimises lighting dynamically, leveraging both daylight and occupancy data throughout office, production, and warehouse spaces resulting in lighting that supports mental health of property’s users. For an even better experience, employees enjoy personalised comfort with the ability to control the lighting intensity in their workspaces via their smartphones.
Buildings typically consume 2 to 5 times more energy than predicted at design stage. The lack of feedback following occupancy is one of the biggest contributors to the performance gap, so it’s crucial to gain real data that drives definitive conclusions, and not rely on assumptions. RONA gains invaluable data through Helvar Insights, a scalable suite of digital services that take advantage of data gathered from their existing lighting control devices and sensors:
– Detailed energy reports with automated lighting control optimisation for energy savings and improved comfort,
– Occupancy heatmaps based on a 3D floor plan, to understand how their space is used, and optimise it to increase efficiency and productivity ,
– System monitoring with alert functionality that ensures peace of mind. If an issue occurs, remote maintenance capabilities enable prompt resolutions, delivering both cost savings and operational improvements.
The DALI-based infrastructure of the Helvar Imagine system offers a flexible and scalable foundation, allowing the seamless integration of various devices and luminaires into one intelligent system. The combination of DALI wiring and wireless ActiveAhead products delivers unmatched adaptability, ensuring the lighting meets the needs of diverse spaces and conditions.
The commitment to innovation shines through this project – intelligent lighting control system isn’t just about efficiency; it’s an investment in people, operations, and the facility’s future. Much like the crystalline glassware RONA produces, this collaboration showcases how modern technology and sustainability can come together with a focus on the human experience.
