With five departments under one roof, the Biomedicum building is responsible for experimental research and promotes interdisciplinary cooperation and research. Biomedicum comprises of approximately 65,000 square metres, making it one of Europe’s largest laboratories with the potential to attract researchers from all over the world.
Award-winning laboratory
Biomedicum started construction in 2013 and was built by Skanska on behalf of Akademiska Hus. The project won Building of the Year in 2019- a prestigious award that highlights quality, collaboration, economy, and form.
“We are incredibly proud that Biomedicum has been named Construction of the Year. This gain is a confirmation that we have succeeded in our work process and through good collaboration with all parties involved, generate the best balance between finances, time, and quality” says Hayar Gohary, project director at Akademiska Hus. The building was also nominated for Best Healthcare Development at the 2020 Mipim Awards.
C.F. Møller Architects designed the building with the aim to boost interaction and collaboration between the five departments. Each element was carefully designed to foster a working environment that encourages interaction and the exchange of ideas.
“Helvar lighting helps to create that modern feel within Biomedicum. Lighting control is important but being able to enhance user wellbeing and concentration is vital for research- Helvar lighting supports this” says Hans-Göran Johansson, Sales Manager, Helvar
“It’s always a proud moment when a project Helvar is involved in, wins an award! The lighting installed further creates a feeling of an advanced research laboratory” says Hans-Göran Johansson.
