SwedenHufvudstaden use Helvar Insights for Smart Lighting Control in NK Gothenburg
Since 1971 NK- Nordiska Kompaniet has been one of Sweden’s most famous department stores. Situated in the heart of the city in Gothenburg, NK houses 45 fashion, beauty, and interior design departments with a mix of Swedish, Nordic, and international brands.
In 2019 NK underwent a major renovation on the lower levels. The electrical cabinets were changed and the building owner, Hufvudstaden, decided to use Helvar products on all levels.
It was also decided to bring in Helvar Insights, Helvar’s scalable cloud-based suite of digital services that gather data from existing lighting control devices and sensors.
“The biggest advantage of Helvar Insights is that it is entirely up to the customer how they manage their facility. They benefit from flexibility where they can decide how the different areas should work, which means that they can provide a more flexible solution for their tenants,” explains Christoffer Elf, Head of Technical Operations Sweden.
With Helvar Insights Hufvudstaden also gets a monitoring system that provides them with useful information about energy consumption, they receive real-time alerts with recommended actions to help diagnose and resolve issues and animated occupancy heat maps to visualise how the occupants use the spaces.
“We see a great advantage with Helvar Insights,” says Matti Virta, Drift Technician at Hufuvdstaden. “We can get a lot of information via this platform. How much the spaces are used, how long it has been illuminated, etc.”
Using the Occupancy Insights module, they can better understand how the building is used every day and optimise spaces to suit new ways of working. It can be a great tool to use for increasing revenue in a retail outlet, for example. By redesigning the space, the users can position products in areas of high footfall to increase sales.
“During events and holidays, we want to be able to control the lighting in a sophisticated way, which we can really do with Helvar Insights” continues Matti Virta.
Matti and his colleagues can also increase their efficiency and response times. With automated system monitoring and malfunction alerts, they can eliminate unnecessary visits by controlling lighting schedules and programming remotely. After a thorough walk-through of the system and with support from the Helvar team Hufuvdstaden is now ready to manage the system in the future.
