Sustainability at Helvar

Enabling the buildings of tomorrow

Our purpose is to create people-centric, sustainable spaces. Through intelligent lighting control and sensing solutions, we provide the foundations for better buildings with minimal environmental impact.

With over 100 years in operation, we understand that responsibility is the only way forward, and are deeply committed to improving both the built environment and our own operations.

Sustainability and intelligent lighting control

Lighting systems are present in almost every indoor space, giving us all a unique opportunity to improve our buildings.

Reducing energy usage

Through intelligent control, we can make sure that lighting systems use no more energy than is absolutely necessary. With actionable data from sensors, we can optimise other building systems such as HVAC as well.

Supporting people

Buildings should help people feel and perform at their best. To do so, lighting systems must support personal preferences, accommodate different activities, and adapt to changing layouts in the future.

Legislation and standards

With the right technological foundations, lighting systems can be configured to meet standards such as EN 12464-1, regulations such as EPBD, and certifications such as BREEAM, LEED and WELL.

Sustainability at Helvar

We focus on growing our carbon handprint while continually reducing our footprint. With more than 100 years behind us, we want to keep improving how we design, build and operate.

Carbon neutrality by 2050

Our ambition is carbon neutrality by 2050, without purchasing offsets or credits. This is supported by a concrete, near-term target: to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2022 baseline.

Growing our handprint

We aim to maximise the positive environmental impact that our solutions enable. Every day, our systems reduce energy use and help to improve building efficiency in projects around the world.

Going beyond the minimums

We strive to support our people with strong benefits and keep pace with changes in legislation and best practice. Our responsibility extends to our value chain, with various requirements in place for our direct suppliers.
