Located along the Atlantic coast in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, the Plus Fariones Suite Hotel has been fully renovated to offer a modern, elegant experience that feels naturally integrated with its stunning environment. A key part of this transformation is the lighting control solution, which creates a flexible, comfortable atmosphere that complements the hotel’s architecture.
The hotel features a variety of spaces, both indoor and outdoor, each with different activity levels throughout the day. The lighting needed to be adaptable, providing the right ambiance for each space at any given time. The Helvar lighting control solution adjusts the light based on the time of day or the specific needs of each area, ensuring energy efficiency and a visually appealing environment.
Helvar controls a wide range of spaces, including the solarium, pool, lobby, façade, terrace, events room, gym, corridors, buffet restaurant, and sports bar. The system ensures the right lighting for every occasion, from quiet moments to busy events, enhancing guest comfort while contributing to energy savings. The result is a dynamic and cohesive atmosphere where light, architecture, and art work in harmony, making for an unforgettable guest experience.
A Challenging Layout, Perfectly Lit
“One of the key challenges of the project was the building’s complex layout, with walkways connecting spaces through vertical voids that span up to five floors. The central atrium, which acts as the heart of the hotel, features pedestrian bridges at different levels. To ensure a seamless experience, precise lighting control was crucial to prevent glare and unwanted light spill across the levels. In areas without a roof, lighting was carefully designed using vertical elements to maintain visual comfort and aesthetic consistency. The spaces between circulation paths also create various seating areas, which were lit to balance intimacy and openness, while ensuring the overall design remained cohesive,” explains Lighting Designer, Rafael Gavira Cabrera from Clickon Studio.
Showcasing Art with Precision
Another key focus of the project was how to showcase the hotel’s impressive art collection. The collection includes pieces by renowned artists such as César Manrique, Ildefonso Aguilar, José Abad, and Nicolás Laiz. The 24-meter-high monumental iron sculpture rising in the central atrium has been treated with specific lighting that enhances its sculptural presence without competing with the architecture or the other artworks visible from different levels.
