It’s important to understand how the right light can be used in different environments. For instance, in a hotel, light can be used to create an ambience and welcoming feel when paired with the right decor and natural light. The right light can create a warm and friendly atmosphere; however, the wrong light can easily detract from a nicely decorated room.
Guest Experience
Lighting in hotels should be installed with guests at the heart. The entire guest experience starts as soon as you arrive at the front desk of a hotel. If you are arriving late at night, the lighting should be warm and welcoming, helping you to feel relaxed and comforted. This is in contrast to when arriving in the morning, where there should be plenty of daylight or if not possible, bright white lighting, to help you feel energised and awake.
Once guests arrive at their hotel room, the challenge is providing them with a home away from home. The most common complaints for guests are poor vanity lighting and reading light. So, by providing guests with adequate bathroom, closet, bedside and vanity mirror lighting, we can instantly make someone feel more at home. In addition, if they can use a single control panel to select their desired lighting scenes, it will provide them with a warm welcome upon arrival. The ability to control the lighting to one’s desired ambience can help guests unwind in the evening with a relaxing environment.
Dynamic in-room night lighting sensors can be applied to respond when guests rise during the night, with low-level lighting illuminating the floor automatically for increased safety. As people often leave the light on in the bathroom during the night (which negatively affects deep sleep), automated lighting allows guests to enjoy a better night’s sleep by switching the lights off after no movement after a set period of time.
It’s important to make the best use of light in each space, to create a relaxing atmosphere throughout the entire hotel. For example, the lighting in the restaurant will require different lighting at different times of the day. During the day, where natural light changes are more noticeable, different scenes make it easy to adapt and maintain the right light level. At night, the lighting may be needed to assist in creating a romantic setting.
Lighting Control
With the use of lighting control, it’s easy to tailor the lighting to suit the required needs. The timing, duration and quality of light exposure is an essential influence on our health and wellbeing. Light regulates our circadian rhythms. Through lighting controls, different profiles can be set so that users can select the most appropriate lighting conditions for the time of year or season. Our ‘Light over Time’ can change the colour temperature and intensity depending on what time of day it is. It helps reflect our natural circadian rhythm, thus improving the balance between mind, body and environment. The ability to change colour temperature and intensity, can help simulate sunrise to help individuals wake up naturally and the use of a blue-enriched white light can help you overcome jet-lag quicker.
With the hospitality industry becoming more competitive than ever, hoteliers are having to refresh their offering and create unique experiences by improving materials, decor, music and lighting, all whilst complementing each other. In an ideal scenario, there will be the ability to control numerous light sources in dynamic ways to achieve the required light levels and colour temperature, whilst also providing a feeling of quality and depth in a comfortable environment.
