Luxury Nobu Hotel Portman Square installed with Helvar lighting controls
Nobu Hotel Portman Square, located in Marylebone, London, opened its doors in May 2021 and is the group’s second London hotel, with its first opening in Shoreditch in 2017. A luxury hotel with 249 rooms, the Nobu Hotel boasts spacious contemporary accommodation with striking views of the city. Featuring natural materials with Japanese detailing and design throughout, each of the rooms provides a comfortable oasis. The spacious, top-floor Nobu Penthouse offers two bedrooms, a comfortable lounge area, a dining room and a large terrace. With a comprehensive range of both traditional and cutting-edge treatments, as well as a state-of-the-art 140m2 gym, the hotel is the perfect space to stay fit, focussed and relaxed.
Lighting designer Isometrix required a custom solution offering an intuitive interface to control the lighting in the suites and time-schedule control for low level ‘night-light’ functionality. Helvar’s 318 wall mounted sensor was installed as it was perfect for safety, quickly activating the lights when guests get out of bed during the night.
Helvar provides full control of the guestroom suites, penthouse, gym and the treatment rooms. The 910 and 905 Router solution together with 454 and 458 mains dimmers, 498 relay-units, 16xxx Control Panels, and a custom PIR at low-level were installed at the hotel to meet the lighting control needs. The 16xxx control panels were designed in a custom finish to match the electrical accessories in the hotel rooms. Helvar’s uSee user interface unit enables hotel staff to easily choose and edit scenes, as well as view energy monitoring. “Ease of use for both staff and guests was imperative to allow guests to experience unforgettable lighting scenes to aid relaxation and provide that home away from home feeling”, expresses Michael Kelsey, Sales Manager, Helvar.
“Helvar’s programmable system makes ‘scene setting’ really straightforward, and the client can fine-tune to the levels they wish to see with ease. In terms of physical install, the wiring details/schematics provided make the system really easy to understand and, in turn, ‘ first fix'” explains Conán Brown, Design Engineer/Contracts Manager, Glackin Electrics.
Energy efficiency was an essential part of the lighting requirements in the gym areas. The sensors will operate in presence mode, and upon entry into the zone, the presence detection will activate and switch the lights on to 100% output. When no movement is detected, the transition level will become active and dim the lights to a 10% output. After a further 1 minute and 30 seconds where no movement is detected, the lights will switch off. “Presence detection is not only user-friendly, but it’s an excellent method in achieving energy savings,” explains Kelsey.
“Helvar’s service has been second to none on this project. They’ve been a pleasure to deal with and always go above and beyond to accommodate the client’s wishes. Glackin Electrics would 100% use Helvar again and potentially look forward to doing so in the future”, adds Brown.
