Sale Käikälä is ready to serve customers and future needs

Overview
Sale stores are part of S Group, a customer-owned Finnish network of companies in the retail and service sectors, with more than 1,800 outlets in Finland. The grocery stores provide a quick and efficient shopping experience. A completely new Sale Käikälä store opened in March 2020 in the Hämeenlinna region. The store is equipped with ActiveAhead luminaires from Purso’s SNEP® range. Purso is a strong luminaire manufacturer from Finland with excellent experience in retail installations. A key requirement for the project was energy-efficient lighting which can be tuned flexibly to offer a comfortable experience to store users and staff.
“Purso has a strong experience with this style of stores. We always strive to provide the customer with the best solution for their needs with the project at hand. We offered smart wireless lighting for this project because we think it brings many benefits and advantages to these types of stores.
We chose the Helvar ActiveAhead solution for this location because it is clearly one of the best solutions on the market. It is flexible, easy to use, easy to deploy and scalable for future needs.
Energy savings is one of the most apparent benefits that this system brings. By connecting this to Helvar’s cloud service, the user receives information about the lighting status, how customers move in the store, and allows them to make changes accordingly and monitor how the changes affect energy consumption and customer behaviour. Overall, we are very pleased with this project and have once again had a great time working with real professionals and thus providing clients with the solutions of the future today.” – Eero Kuoppa, Product Manager, Lighting, Purso.
Prioritising customer experience and energy efficiency
Wellbeing is one of the important cornerstones when designing lighting control solutions at Helvar. We have a good understanding of how lighting can affect the comfort, efficiency and wellbeing of space users in general. Our ActiveAhead® wireless lighting solution was chosen for this project because it offers comfort, energy efficiency, and flexibility to serve the future needs of the store.
“Customer experience is really important to us in Sale, and of course, good lighting plays a significant role in that. Light adjustability and automatic control contribute to store work and customer experiences. We have received positive feedback on our store lighting. For example, a person with epilepsy finds it pleasant to shop with us because of the lighting.” – Paula Kuusisto, Salesperson, Sale Käikälä.
ActiveAhead luminaires from luminaire manufacturer Purso have been installed in the grocery store, and these cover the store area, back rooms and the office room. Together with Purso, we offered an excellent match to the store. All 55 luminaires in the store area and most of the 23 luminaires in the other areas have ActiveAhead multi-sensors installed. This allows us to be flexible with the installation and allows us to support Sale Käikälä’s possible future needs.
“These luminaires communicate with each other wirelessly, and the majority of the luminaires have a tiny sensor with both a motion sensor and a light sensor. In this way, the lighting of this space can be adjusted in a very energy-efficient way according to the store’s needs. This can be flexibly programmed even by grouping the spaces and making them so that the store wants to use them.” – Matti Vesterinen, Director, Wireless, Helvar.
Grouping was used to dim areas as per the store’s requirements. Light output levels were adjusted to have the correct amount of lights on the shelves for a pleasant shopping experience. Relay input from the local Building Management System and ActiveAhead Node Advanced products were used to signal the ActiveAhead system during the store’s opening hours. This was to ensure an energy-saving light output level in the store areas and provide a signal to turn all lights on during a possible alert.
