DRN Prague – Building of the year 2019
Building of the Year 2019 – this award was given to the DRN office building for its distinctive use of green elements and unique combination of old and new in one unit. This modern multifunctional building, which connects the Dunaj Palace built in 1930 with the baroque Schönkirch Palace, was built on the corner of Národní and Mikulandská streets in the centre of Prague in 2017. The land, which had been used as a car park since 1966 after the demolition of the corner houses, was purchased by private investor SEBRE, a.s. in 2012. The design of the project came from the pen of Ing. arch. Stanislav Fiala, from the office Fiala + Němec, s.r.o.
For this important architectural project, our company implemented RGB facade management with 300 RGB luminaires in 2017. A lighting control system with unique Helvar IMAGINE Router controllers was designed and commissioned in cooperation with the luminaire supplier, Lumidée s.r.o. All facade luminaires used communicate via the DALI standard. The 9 Helvar Imagine routers installed enable control and adaptation of the coloured lighting scenes, with the intensity and scenes going hand in hand with the coming night time and user requirements. The play of light scenes, one of which is the illumination of the facade in our national colours, completes the exterior in a sensitive way and the surrounding atmosphere of the adjacent buildings. Thanks to the WEBserver, control is possible via PC, mobile phone and tablet with an event planner function for selecting pre-set lighting scenes.
DRN serves mainly as office space, shops, restaurants and galleries. The outline of the building follows the street line and responds to the height differences of its neighbours with receding floors lined with balconies of greenery. A two-story commercial parterre connects to the street space. Four underground floors conceal garages and technical facilities. The upper floors with seven floors above ground contain offices. The roof, on which the architect placed a garden, serves as a terrace. The facade is glazed and terraces with greenery and flowers stretch around its perimeter, which are illuminated by specially made LED, RGBW lights. The luminaires with IP 66 protection are made of aluminium U-profiles in lengths of 30 and 60 cm using low-voltage 24V LED strips and 70 W drivers encased in a special two-component material. The combination of different lengths of LED luminaires, light colour and lighting control in the evening and early evening casually, yet practically, tastefully and economically completes the overall architectural and technical design of the building.
