Unveiling History: Lighting Breaths New Life into Peltuinum
Unveiling the Roman town of Peltuinum in Abruzzo, Italy, requires more than just excavation. Meticulously designed lighting plays a crucial role in showcasing these unearthed ruins, shaping how visitors experience this significant piece of history.
Peltuinum was an ancient Roman town located in the region of present-day Abruzzo in central Italy – an important settlement during Roman times, with evidence of its existence dating back to the 4th century BC. Archaeological excavations at Peltuinum uncovered remains of public buildings, residential structures, and infrastructure like roads and aqueducts, providing insight into daily life in a Roman town.
At the forefront of smart lighting solutions, Peltuinum integrates DALI control systems with Tunable White luminaires (2200K to 6500K), a solution that revolutionises the way we illuminate and experience heritage sites.
What sets Peltuinum apart is its seamless integration of DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface). The Imagine 905 Application Controller, renowned for its precision and flexibility in managing lighting environments – coupled with DALI Tunable White DT8 – enable unprecedented control over individual light fixtures and Kelvin colour temperature. DALI was also chosen with energy efficiency in mind – leveraging DALI’s capabilities to optimise lighting usage and reduce energy consumption without compromising on performance or aesthetic beauty.
Unlike traditional static lighting, Tunable White fixtures offer the ability to adjust both colour temperature and intensity, mimicking natural daylight and moon effect variations throughout the day/night – this details of which have been defined and implemented by esteemed Lighting Designer, Arch. Francesca Storaro – one of the worlds most renowned experts in the field of lighting design, known for her delibrate and sympathetic designs seen in many cultural landmark projects.
Opting for full-colour temperature control unlocks a range of benefits. Firstly, it allows for targeted illumination of specific ruins, highlighting the craftsmanship and artistry of the past for visitors. Secondly, this empowers the heritage site team to craft a more dynamic and immersive experience. By tailoring the light throughout the day or for events, the team can create a captivating narrative, breathing new life into this ancient site.
