Transforming the IPH Office through wireless lighting innovation

IPH (Institut für Integrierte Produktion) is a limited non-profit organization focused on research and development in production engineering. As part of their recent renovation, they aimed to transform the entrance of their headquarters, traditionally a stair house, into a space suitable for small exhibitions and presentations by customers.
The planning for this project began in 2021, and by 2022, Helvar had supplied the lighting solutions and components to designer LIPA Lichtparner GmbH to bring IPH’s vision to life. For this particular project, Helvar ActiveAhead – our intelligent wireless lighting control solution – was deemed to be the perfect fit due to itss plug-and-play out-of-the-box operation and ease of installation.

To create a versatile environment, ceiling lights were installed with Helvar Freedom LED drivers and Tunable White technology, allowing for a multipurpose setting. This flexible lighting setup enables customers to adjust the lighting and create an ambient atmosphere tailored to their needs— an ideal feature for hosting exhibitions and presentations.
One of the key benefits of choosing ActiveAhead is the automated dynamic lighting control. Helvar ActiveAhead with Tunable White can adjust the intensity and color temperature of the lighting based on the available natural light, occupancy, and time of day. In an office, this means that the lighting system can automatically adapt to changing conditions, providing the right amount of light and color temperature for the occupants’ needs. Helvar ActiveAhead can utilise daylight sensors to measure the amount of natural light entering the office space. It can then dim or adjust artificial lighting levels accordingly, maintaining a consistent light level while minimizing energy consumption.
The intelligent self-learning feature of Helvar ActiveAhead, enabled via AI algorithms, allows the lighting system to learn from the patterns of occupancy and usage in an office space. Over time, the system can adapt its lighting settings based on real-time data, ensuring that the right amount of light is provided when and where it is needed. These automation capabilities can further optimise energy consumption by automatically dimming or turning off lights when areas are unoccupied. This helps reduce energy wastage and contributes to overall sustainability efforts.
The Helvar Freedom LED drivers with Tunable White provide a cutting-edge wireless control solution for adjusting the light sources’ color temperature. Tunable White technology allows the color temperature of the light to be customized, ranging from warm white (2700K) to cool white (6500K).
Circadian lighting is a key application of Tunable White technology, wherein the color temperature of the light is programmed to change throughout the day, mimicking natural daylight shifts. For instance, in the morning, a cool white light promotes alertness and productivity, while in the evening, a gradual shift to warm white light induces relaxation and prepares the body for sleep.
This type of lighting is especially beneficial in spaces where people spend extended periods, such as offices, schools, and healthcare facilities, as it helps regulate the body’s natural rhythms and improves overall well-being. Research has also shown that circadian lighting positively affects mood, cognitive function, and productivity. Learn more about circadian lighting here.
